While technically “free” at most stays, the expectation is of course for you to patronize the venue! Most places have no hookups, but this does vary from site to site. Our stay at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa Illinois had electric sites for a small added fee, with water and dump on the premises.
Being able to stay in a safe, relaxing, and VERY DIFFERENT environment is priceless. For the cost of a bottle or two of wine, staying overnight in a vineyard is magical. Purchasing produce or groceries at a farm overnight stay is just plan handy! And the ticket admission price to a museum is a fantastically satisfying option to an old and tired KOA or Walmart Parking Lot overnight stay.
How do you find these places along your "random" route?
When it came time for Sue & I to relocate from Milwaukee WI to California for winter 2020/2021 we decided to stay at a few CONSECUTIVE Harvest Host locations along the way. We knew we could go a week between full hook ups if we managed our water properly. Additionally, we have an on board generator to recharge our batteries as needed.
As we used RV Trip Wizard to plan out our 250 mile per day travel segments, we were easily able to identify and add 5 Harvest Host stops along the way.
The RV Trip Wizard App destination location filter at this time will not automatically “DISPLAY” Harvest Host locations on its map for your selection. You need to first search and identify the proper name of the Harvest Hosts location you want to stay at using the Harvest Hosts location application.
Once you have identified the proper name of a Harvest Host location you simply enter it into the search function in RV Trip Wizard. Most likely, it will then pop up as a possible location in the drop down selection box. Click on it, and you will be able to ADD IT TO YOUR ROUTE in any location of your current plan along the way. BINGO! You are all set.
So what's it like to stay at a Harvest Host?
Our visit was on October 14th 2020, during the tail end of the tourist season. Covid-19 pandemic safety protocols were in place. Check the Arpeggio Winery website prior to your visit to see if it will coincide with some of the upcoming festivals or musical events they host throughout the 2021 year as things start to improve.
