Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing – Ocala, FL

Drag Racing Enthusiasts AND Conveniently Located!

The Don Garlits Museum, nestled in the vibrant city of Ocala, Florida, is a captivating destination for motorsports enthusiasts and history buffs alike. It also has an Antique Car Museum next door. And it is now a Harvest Host right next to Interstate 75.

"Big Daddy" Don Garlits

Named after the legendary drag racer “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, the museum stands as a testament to his remarkable career and contributions to the world of drag racing. Mark is not much of a sports guy but being a retired mechanical engineer, he has always been a lover and admirer of Drag Racing and Don Garlits.

Mark grew up during Don Garlits’ reign as one of the legends of Drag Racing.  If Garlits was on the cover of a Hot Rod Magazine, Mark would have to read the article.  His father took him to races at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove Wisconsin, and Mark continued the tradition by taking his 2 sons.  When Mark was able to become a small miniature cog in the machinery of Don Garlits’ life by being the one to “Hook the Museum Up” with Harvest Host, it was like he won the Congressional Medal of Honor. He is proud he will always have that connection.

Outstanding Displays and Exhibits

With an impressive collection of over 300 meticulously restored and preserved vehicles, including top fuel dragsters, funny cars, and hot rods, you too can trace the evolution of drag racing over the decades.

There are immaculate displays, engaging exhibits, and interactive elements that make the museum a thrilling experience for visitors of all ages, providing an immersive journey into the high-octane world of drag racing (without the high decibels of sound level 😳 😵‍💫!)

Whether one is a seasoned motorsports fan or a casual observer, the Don Garlits Museum promises an unforgettable and educational experience.

A Harvest Host That's Great for Big Rigs

After visiting this museum and seeing the designated lanes for RVs to park, we were surprised that it wasn’t already a Harvest Host when we visited it. This is when Mark went back in, talked to someone and got the wheels rolling…. and because of his effort, this museum is now a Harvest Host. It was because of this experience that we often will ask other places if they are Harvest Hosts.

And this is how the WASP Museum in Sweetwater, TX also became a Harvest Host. Check out our WASP Museum blog and our WASP YouTube video!

As you can see below, there is plenty of room for Big Rigs to pull in and park!
