Camp Freightliner Class #1
Sue & I first experienced this facility in November 2017 when we both took the two day “Camp Freightliner Class #1” as a couple. This class is a must for all first time front AND rear engine diesel Freightliner Custom Chassis Motorhome owners. The instructor knows the subject matter as well as the Freightliner Engineering Department does!
Camp Freightliner Class #2
I (Mark) also attended the “Camp Freightliner Class #2“. This “class” teams you up, one-on-one, with a service tech. You get to look at, discuss, touch, feel and repair one entire days worth of tasks on your rig. You must complete Camp Freightliner #1 class before you can take Camp Freightliner Class #2. Additionally, you need to agree to a minimum 4.0 hour amount of repair or maintenance work to be done on your rig during this class. The work I had done, was at the end of the day, and was nothing I would ever want to do myself. Yet I was still able to watch and learn!
My ENTIRE rig was lifted up 6 feet in the air on a service lift for most of the day as we worked under it. It is an invaluable experience to better understand all the complex systems in your chassis.
I was able to just “blurt out” things as we inspected the chassis. If we found something of concern, my tech would explain our options. He was calm and cool, and literally fixed any and all things we discovered on the spot!
I will confess that I do virtually NONE of my own chassis repair OR maintenance work. Still, to keep from being ripped off or panicing unnecessarily along your travels, it’s reassuring to have a good BASE level of understanding of your rig.
The Camp Freightliner Class is absolutely made to order for all REAL GEAR HEAD motorhome owners, as well as us “city boy” motorhome owners that use our wallets more than tools!
