What Da Heck Is Going On With My RV Upholstery?
Unfortunately for many RV owners, it’s only a matter of time before YOUR RV seats start to look like MINE did. Our 2014 Newmar Dutch Model 4369 was built in June of 2013 with Flexsteel Seating throughout the coach. We though our furniture was going to be OK, but then around 2020, inside of 9 months, we went from really good to really awful!
Apparently, a decision was made within MANY of the major, upscale motorhome builders to use a polyurethane ‘fake leather’ marketed under the name of Haloleather Fabric Services. This was installed on LOTS of RV and residential furniture. Turns out, this material is destined to fail in most of the RV furniture it was used in. You just have to wait for your turn in the barrel to come up!
How Did Bauer RV Upholstry Come To Exist?
Flexsteel was not responsible for making the decision to use this fabric. They were literally supplied the fabric by the motorhome builders. As the furniture seating surfaces started to fail, Flexsteel found themselves in the center of a bad customer relations issue for the motorhome companies. I am certain this did not help their desire to stay in the RV Furniture game, and in 2020 Flexsteel chose to exit the RV furniture business.
For Lisa this meant after working for Flexsteel Industries’ RV division for 23 years, she found herself and her co-workers without a job. Quickly Lisa saw this as an opportunity to forge her own path and pick up where Flexsteel’s RV division left off. Keep in mind she was taking this leap of faith in her abilities at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic! What a bold and amazing accomplishment.
With her experience and industry know-how, Lisa built Bauer RV Upholstery from the ground up, gathering a team of experienced employees and fulfilling the needs of Flexsteel RV seating customers across the country.
Today, Bauer RV Upholstery is a thriving family business and the nation’s only upholstery shop specializing in the replacement and reupholstery of Flexsteel RV seating. Her son Mason is the operations and marketing manager.

So Why Use Bauer RV Upholstry?
If you watch our video on getting our seating recovered, you will learn about the many reasons “re-upholstering” may be a smarter move than “buying new” again.
1 – Keep in mind, you DO NOT want to buy NEW furniture again without knowing the track record of that fabric material. When you recover, Bauer will be able to steer you what fabric to use, AND what materials to stay clear of. She can match virtually any color.
2 – Beware of accepting a warrantee replacement seat that you do not know the EXACT fabric make and number that will be used. Many times Bauer will actually be the supplier of the replacement covers your coach builder may be offering as warrantee. Make CERTAIN you clear the fabric selection with her before you accept a warrantee seat from your coach builder. Don’t let it get made on the same stuff! Pay for the Ultraleather Upgrade to get in made with the “good stuff” rather then the pile of “bad stuff” they have laying around.
3 – When you add in all the extra options many of our coaches have to the seats such as auto footrests, lumbar air inflated back supports, back rest heaters, six way power adjust, etc. the cost for a NEW seat will easily exceed $2500. And this is without shipping to your location!
4 – When you recover, your seats will FEEL and LOOK like new. They will actually still be the original manufactured equipment. The sizes of the furniture will fit you as good as it does now, and you will have no surprises of something being too high or at the wrong angle. You will also be able to make some changes if you DO want them, like making a seating surface extra firm OR slightly higher.
