Motorhome Tires and more…

Michelin Motorhome Tires, Centramatic Balancing Disk's and National Indoor RV Center's RettroBand RV Tire Safety Device

In November of 2019 after 6.5 years and 43,500 miles we decided our tires had “timed out”. They actually looked like new, but looks have really nothing to do with when your tires should be removed from service.

For the most part, Motorhome tires never wear out under normal circumstances, they are used until they “age out”.

You can find just about any recommended number of years to replace them if you Google long enough, but the MOST FREQUENT answer is usually the correct one. Most pro-active folks change their tires at the six year mark, regardless of mileage.

We replaced our Motorhome tires and exchanged our Tyron Tire Bands with the more “robust” and innovative National Indoor RV Center (NIRVC) RettroBand RV Safety Tire Devices. Scroll down to read and see the updated Rettroband Version 2.0.

What does all this fancy equipment look like?

The top photo shows our “removed” Tyron Tire Bands complete with the road side removal spider kit you need to carry if you have a flat on the road.  The lower LH photo shows what a Centramatic Balancing Disk looks like. The lower RH photo illustrates the dramatic difference in the size, beef and function of the two runflat technologies side-by-side.

At 8:18 in this Episode 99, see how you “could have” saved $250 on Rettrobands ordered by January 19th 2020. As of today, I am sure this no longer applies, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask!

Here is a comment from NIRVC that illustrates the confidence they have in their product:

“Should any Rettroband customer have a blowout, all they need to do is let Rettroband or NIRVC know and we will replace the Rettroband involved in the blowout (regardless of any damage to the Rettroband) with a new Rettroband installed and balanced free of charge. Rettrobands are meant to be a one time purchase that an owner can move from coach to coach.”

  1. Mark this was a great video, we are trying to do the same thing with our motorhome.
What information do you need for the Centramatic discs? just 22.5 and 10 lugs?
Working on the rettorband order, and hope to have it on by the end of January. They sell out quick.
Thank you for the video again.

    1. We have the Centramatic part numbers we purchased for our 2014 Newmar Dutch Star Model 4369 in the Tire Safety Section of our Amazon Store. I recommend getting the EXACT correct part numbers DIRECTLY from Centramatic. They will need the make & model & year of your rig. They had me send them a photo of my inner tag axle rim that required me to crawl under the rig. They can give you price, availability and shipping info that you can then compare to Amazon. Amazon almost always wins,…….but you have to check. These are one of those things I bought that turned out to be a genius move. Make sure you get them!

  2. Wow! This is excellent information. I can see how both the Centramatic Wheel Balancing Dick and Rettroband is a must have. Great Safety advice. Thank you!

    1. The Centramatic Balancing Discs are sort of a secret in the RV world,…..and common place in the trucking industry.
